About Nick

Nick Melidonis M.Photog. AIPP

The photographs of Nick Melidonis reflect passion, energy, vision and mastery of light & composition. Entering the realms of professional photography in 1997 from a background in management consultancy and training, Nick has travelled extensively in pursuit of emotive images from some of the world’s most scenic and wild locations.

Nick has won numerous awards for his work including the ‘Australian Professional Landscape Photographer of the Year’ in 2000, 2001 and again in 2008. In 2005, Nick was awarded the WA AIPP Professional Landscape Photographer of the Year. He is the 2011 runner-up to the AIPP ‘Australian Travel Photographer of the Year’. His work has featured in the prestigious yearbooks and travelling collections of the Fuji-ACMP (the Society of Advertising, Commercial and Magazine Photographers Ltd) five times. In 2001, Nick achieved a Master of Photography from the AIPP. In May 2009 Nick was awarded his third gold bar (three gold bars means a recipient has satisfied the requirements to be a Master Photographer four times).

Nick is one of Australia’s foremost Photographic educators and each year, he delivers numerous seminars, workshops and lectures to the imaging industry as well as photo enthusiasts Australia wide. His creative, fine-art and travel photography courses for the University of Western Australia are always in high demand. Nick is also an Australian Ambassador for NIK software.

Nick writes regularly for many photography and lifestyle magazines and is a member of the Australian Society of Travel Writers. He is a regular contributor to Better Photography Magazine and Better Digital Camera. He also enjoys shooting stock photography and undertaking commercial assignments including architecture, events and sailing, travel and tourism.

Nick’s passion for travel and teaching has resulted in numerous photographic tours to the Greek Islands since 1999 and in 2012 he is also
conducting tours to Cambodia and Borneo.

His first major photographic book, Aegean Light – the Spirit of Olympia was released in Australia and Greece in May 2004 and given as a gift by the
Consulate of Greece to the WA Olympic athletes.

There are a lot of great photographers on the speaking circuits who communicate their passion, but few are able to communicate passion as well and with a clear understanding and direction that the audience can take away and apply to their own lives. This is where Nick Melidonis excels. He’ll draw you into his world of landscapes, travel and fine art with inspirational images, then describe a simple process you can follow to develop your own style and create your own masterpieces. Nick’s presentation techniques are engaging, humorous and educational and he can speak on everything from composition and photographic philosophy to practical camera and Photoshop techniques – everyone leaves his seminars and workshops on a high.
