LIGHT FANTASTIC
Another fantastic Light Fantastic. Participants enjoyed the varied; passionate and informative sessions from the great line up of speakers. Dale anad I wish to thank our presenters, support team and our fabulous key note speakers from New Zealand, Mike Langford and Jackie Ranken.
Now in its seventh year, Light Fantastic is the premier annual photography expo in Perth
Master photographers Nick Melidonis and Dale Neill again present a fascinating line-up of photographic talent.
Join them for two days of information, innovation and inspiration as Light Fantastic showcases the best in all things photographic.
For the first time there will be two internationally acclaimed keynote speakers – Mike Langford and Jackie Ranken.
Mike Langford chases perfection. With awards in landscape, geographica, travel, corporate, industrial, and commercial photography to his name, Mike is one of the Australasia’s most sought-after presenters. An international awards judge and publisher of more than 25 books, he will inspire and challenge you to excel in your imagery.
Jackie Ranken is the only person to have won both the Australian and New Zealand Professional Photographer of the Year and Landscape Photographer of the Year awards. Jackie will share her personal approach and techniques for creating photographic art.
Other highlights will include:
- Peter Lambert – Wildlife and wilderness photography in some of the world’s wildest and most remote areas
- David Dare Parker – Walkley Award winning photojournalist
- Kevin Lucas – One of Perth’s premier sports photographers

The Ultimate Landscape, Travel and Fine Art Master Class

Over the last decade, three photographers have dominated the AIPP ‘Australian Professional Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards’.
Husband and wife team Mike Langford and Jackie Ranken from New Zealand have each won it twice and Nick Melidonis three times. Mike Langford is also the current ‘Australian Professional Travel Photographer of the Year’ and Nick Melidonis was the runner-up.
With numerous other awards and achievements to their names, these three Master photographers will, for the first time, combine their expertise to provide an inspirational, fun and informative day at Notre Dame University that is not to be missed.
All three photographers have travelled extensively, capturing a vast range of landscapes, people and nature in some of the world’s most scenic locations. Each photographer will dissect samples of their signature images and explore their approach and elements of design in producing emotive images that connect with and engage the viewer.
Mike, Jackie and Nick are sought after professional educators and presenters with many years of sharing their depth of experience and knowledge. Participants will come away with inspiration, fresh ideas and practical solutions to taking their photography to a new and more exciting level.

AUSTRALIAN PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS, 2012 SYDNEY
I am very happy to say that I was runner-up in the 2012 TRAVEL category , I was just pipped at the post by old friend and colleague, Mike Langford from NZ. Mike Langford and his wife Jackie Rankin will be our key note speakers at the 2012 Light Fantastic Photo Expo to be held at Notre Dame University in Fremantle, WA on March 2012. Mike, Jackie and I will be running a special one-day workshop at Notre Dame on the Monday following Light Fantastic and this promises to be a great event.
Of the four images entered (see below), I received a GOLD award for my Patagonian iceberg image, a SILVER DISTINCTION for my running wilderbeest image and a SILVER for the two balloons rising on a Kenyan dawn

I now have several photographers that I conduct mentoring sessions with and this is proving to be a popular and successful method to ensure that photographers receive specific knowledge and skills to bring out the creative element of their work.
