Nick Melidonis - Spirit of Place
'A Celebration of Eye, Mind and Spirit'

Boutique Small Group Photo and Cultural Tours

Nick Melidonis is a prolific traveller and loves to share his travels and adventures with like- minded people. Nick has been designing and leading photo and cultural tours for nearly 20 years years and he feels his greatest success is the repeat business from satisfied customers. Each destination is carefully researched prior to the tour being offered to ensure all you need to do is turn up and enjoy yourself.

‘Spirit of Place’ photo and cultural tours are meticulously planned to show you the very best of the inspirational destinations we travel to with some down time built in so you can relax and explore on your own.

Our tours are more than great photography with some of the world’s best photographers; you will also experience the rich culture and cuisine of the places we visit with our knowledgeable guides; fantastic local food; an introduction to many local artists and personalities and visits to numerous exciting places off the beaten track. We also understand that not everyone is a serious photographer and we cater for both beginners and seasoned enthusiasts. The overriding aim is to have fun.

"We have forever talked of seeing Greece and this opportunity to do so with you as guides has been terrific. A key ingredient has been your friendly, fun approach and hospitality, not only on the trip but in the lead up to the event. Your connection to the people at the various hotels, transport and outings has added not only to the ease of travel and stays but to a wonderful spread of experiences and I think a closer feel for Greece and the Greeks.

Nick, your sharing of your photographic experience and expertise was a wonderful added bonus, even for we less gifted. Eva, your relaxed, thoughtful and caring interaction with us all was really appreciated"

‘Sugar cube’ style houses spill down the slopes, waters are crystal clear turquoise and all shades of blue, food is fresh, healthy Mediterranean fare and there are unexpected paths leading to ancient monuments.  After taking happy explorers on 20 previous tours to his homeland of Greece, Nick will use his amazing insider’s knowledge to lead this small personal tour to some of the hidden secrets of the Aegean Sea.

This travel adventure will be a relaxing journey through some of Greece’s hidden jewel islands, with enough time at each destination for your personal exploration and interaction with local Greek people.  The tranquil charms of the small islands in the West Cyclades have a timeless atmosphere. Their distinctive white architecture and narrow streets reveal colourful surprises around every corner.

Each island is different.  There is stunning scenery for photography and for those interested in activity, we have options for our group to enjoy. All activities are voluntary and will be arranged according  to the wishes of our travellers.

Photography: Nick, an award-winning master photographer, will show you how to creatively use your camera in dawn to dusk variations of Aegean light.

Cuisine: Come to the markets with us and where possible, join cooks and chefs at hotels and restuarants for demonstrations on Greek food preparation;

Dance: Eva will bring out the inner dancer in you, teaching elements of the smooth and healthy movement of belly dancing and traditional Greek dancing.

ICONIC GREECE 2022  - May 11th - May 23,  2022

Delphi, Meteora, Thermomplae, Epidaurus, Nafplion, Spetses, Hyrdra, Mystras, Monemvasia

After two decades of conducting tours to Greece and the Greek Islands; Nick and Eva offer more jewels of Greece to savour in an exciting new adventure. We will have our own personal coach and driver for the entire tour.

Our journey commences in classical Athens from where we travel to ancient Delphi, with its evocative ruins surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery; surely one the most beautiful historic sites in Greece. From Delphi; we travel north to the imposing monasteries of Meteora, a UNESCO world heritage site.

We journey along a stunning coastline via the historic battle site of Thermopylae where the Spartan King Leonidas made his famous stand in 480 BC. Our journey continues to an area of stunning beauty and rich culture in the Peloponnese to the treasures of Byzantium as we commence with a visit to the old capital of Greece; the beautifully preserved city of Nafplion. Nafplion has cobbled streets, squares, spectacular architecture, sophisticated shopping and the fortress of Bourtzi in the harbour with the towering castle of Palamides above. We then discover one of the greatest monuments of Greek Antiquity, the famous theatre at the Asklepieion of Epidaurus, the finest of its kind. It combines perfect acoustics with style and elegance in design and is still in use today.

We enjoy a relaxing cruise to experience the fabulous island of Spetses.  It was also the home to a heroic female naval admiral, Bouboulina who went down in history for her role in the revolution.  We continue our cruise to the striking island of Hydra, where there are no cars and the prominent harbour has imposing houses built by numerous sea captains. Leonard Cohen spent many wonderful years here.

The exquisite little village of Mystras is located 5 kms from Sparta. Above the village is a hilltop strewn with monasteries, castles and churches, most well preserved, that we will visit and savour its history.

One of Greece’s best kept secrets is Monemvasia, a beautiful Medieval, walled castle town and port. Be overwhelmed by this legendary rock, cut off from the coast of the Peloponnese by an earthquake in 375 AD. As a natural fortress, it was inhabited by the Byzantines, Franks, Venetians and Ottomans.

This new adventure will be the trip of a lifetime and a natural extension to our popular “Hidden Jewels of Greece” itinerary, don’t miss it.
